Ashford International to Canterbury West is a single direct Southeastern train with one stop on the way. A typical run takes about 22 minutes, and the quickest on the weekday timetable did it in 14. With trains every 15 to 30 minutes or so from 06:30 to 23:20, this is a leg you rarely need to plan far in advance.

When the trains run

Through the middle of the day the Canterbury departures from Ashford fall into a pattern that is easy to remember: about twenty past the hour and again just before the next, so 12:20, 12:57, 13:20 and on through the afternoon. The start of the day is thinner, though: the early departures we found were the 06:30, 07:17 and 07:56, and then the service picks up, with pairs close together at 08:20 and 08:35 and again at 09:01 and 09:23.

From 16:38 extra trains are added for the evening, and the 18:00 hour alone had three, at 18:02, 18:27 and 18:35. From the 20:01 the service settles back to two an hour, close to the hour and at about twenty past, ending with the 23:20.

From the 07:17 onwards, the longest wait between Ashford departures for Canterbury West was under 40 minutes on a weekday, so arriving at Ashford International off another train costs you little time here.
